About the place
Anina station is the end of the Oravița–Anina line, opened on 15 December 1863: 33.4 km, 14 tunnels and a climb of almost 340 m through the Anina Mountains. The line was built to carry Anina's coal towards the Danube and is known as the Banat Semmering. The long stone-and-brick building with its covered platform is a class A listed monument.
In 2025 the train came daily from Oravița in the morning and went back in the afternoon. If you come by train, there is time to see the Mining Museum or eat in the centre before the return.
