It is a class A listed monument and the start of Romania's first mountain railway.
About the place
The station building was finished in 1847, together with the Oravița–Baziaș line, the first railway on today's Romanian territory, opened in 1854. It is a class A listed monument. Since 1863 the line to Anina also starts here.
The Oravița–Anina railway is 33.4 km long, with 14 tunnels and several viaducts, and climbs almost 340 m through the Anina Mountains. It is known as the Banat Semmering. In 2025 one pair of trains ran each day, out in the morning and back in the afternoon.
