About the place
The Vienna court set up a mint at Ciclova Montană to use copper from the Banat mines. Between 1811 and 1855 Austrian kreuzers were struck here. Local people called it the bănărie, the money works.
The museum in Oravița shows hundreds of coins and banknotes, documents and photographs about the mint. It was set up as part of the project marking 200 years since the Old Theatre opened, in 2017. It is on the same street as the Pharmacy Museum.
