It is a listed monument, with its north wall and a tower still standing, and it is free to visit.
About the place
The castle stands on a hill that juts into the Bârzava valley, north of town, at a spot called Buza Turcului. It is first mentioned in 1331 as a royal castle. In the 16th and 17th centuries it changed hands several times, the Ottomans among them, and it was destroyed more than once, last towards the end of the 17th century.
Today you can see the north wall, almost two metres thick, a square tower inside and traces of a bridge pier in the ditch. The walls are of limestone brought from the Colțan quarries. The ruins have been cleared and can be visited at any time, without a ticket.
