About the place
The museum opened in 1972 in the Triaj area and is a listed monument. It shows 16 steam locomotives from different periods; 14 were built at the Reșița works. At the entrance, on a plinth, stands 'Resicza' from 1872, the first locomotive built in central and eastern Europe, from a series designed for the mountain line from Reșița to Secu.
The newest is the narrow-gauge CFR 764.001 from 1958. Each exhibit has a panel with its history. Reviews from 2026 say the locomotives deserve better upkeep, but the collection is still the main reason tourists come to Reșița.
Good to know
- Read the panels next to the locomotives: each one tells its story.
- You cannot climb into the locomotives; you see everything from the paths.
- Combine it with a walk around the Civic Centre, about 3 km away.
